Johnson, Clint
A 10-year-old Clint Johnson began his rodeo career at a 4-H rodeo. In high school he qualified for the South Dakota High School Finals from 1971-74, twice going to the National High School Finals. His quiet dedication to rodeo began with a term on the board of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. He later spent four years on the PRCA Board of Directors, serving as its vice chairman. Johnson’s smooth, consistent style of riding saddle broncs qualified him for 12 consecutive trips to the National Finals Rodeo and earned him four gold buckles. Born April 28, 1956, in Spearfish, S.D., Johnson never finished below seventh place in the standings, most years he was fourth or higher. He made 21 straight qualified rides, beginning in the 10th go at the 1987 NFR and continuing through the 10th go of the 1989 NFR. He was a record three-time winner of the Calgary Stampede Rodeo’s $50,000 bonus. He was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1992.
